Watch: Returning Navy Lieutenant surprises his children at Nats game

There was a surprise for Joey Cooper and his little sister Maddie. The two thought they were contests winners, getting to stand on the field of Nationals Park. Little did they know, they were on the field for something more special.

Their father, Lt. Lewis Cooper of the U.S. Navy, returned from his six-month tour of Afghanistan and was there to give them a heartwarming reunion before the Washington Nationals-Houston Astros game.

Reuniting a soldier with his or her family after serving in active duty never gets old, especially in today’s time of war. The collective effort by sports organizations and teams on all levels of putting these families back together in the spotlight is very appreciated.
