Washington Wizards fans the anticipation will be over on Thursday. The team announced via Twitter they will be revealing a first look of their new Nike uniforms.
Since the NBA announced Nike would be taking over the uniform contract from adidas at the start of the 2017-18 season, fans have been clamoring about the thought of have the athletic apparel king’s influence on the Association’s uniforms. Last month, Nike revealed some details about the highly anticipated uniforms around the league. They announce the elimination of the traditional home and away uniforms in favor of the “Association” and “Icon” uniforms.
Also, each team will have four designs with a select going with a throwback uniform. There are plenty more of details that will need to be announced ahead of the season. But one thing is for sure the new material-look on the uniforms that have been revealed to this point shows an upgrade from years before.
How all this will impact the Wizards remains to be seen. From the preview, it appears the red uniforms are in play for the “Icon” colorway. What will be interesting is which form of the white uniforms will be the “Association” look. The Star-Spangled Banner whites that were unveiled last season became a popular choice of the fans. So much so, the team elected to use the threads as their home choice for the postseason. The Wizards went a perfect 6-0 in the playoffs at the Verizon Center.
Also, what will become of the blue uniforms that were introduced a couple of seasons prior?
Will the Baltimore Pride uniforms continue in some variation?
We already know Nike is doing away with the sleeve jerseys, so if the Wizards keep honoring their Baltimore heritage it will be done with the sleeveless look. Thursday’s revealing will more than likely be just of the Association and Icon uniforms to go in line with what other teams have already revealed.
