Damonte Dodd Injured in First NBA Workout

Former Maryland big Damonte Dodd had his first NBA workout ahead of Thursday’s NBA Draft. Unfortunately, it ended before it really started. Reports state Dodd suffered an injury to his right leg early on in a workout with the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday morning, per Keith Pompey of Philly.com.

Dodd, who stands at 6-foot-11, already had an uphill battle being drafted. Draft Express ranks the Terps former center at 52nd among seniors in the class. As a senior, Dodd averaged 6.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in 19.5 per minutes.

Dodd’s upside is very limited, as his athleticism, short shooting range, and lack of sound footwork will handicap his draft grading by scouts. With such a low ceiling, getting an invite to a summer league roster is probably his best-case scenario before moving on playing professionally outside the NBA. Getting injured in his first workout with an NBA team will most definitely not help his case.
