When your season is on the line like the Washington Capitals are, you’ll need your best players, your superstars, to come out and make a huge difference. That is what the Capitals got from Nicklas Backstrom and Andre Burakovsky in the third period that lead to the Game 5’s equalizer.
Trailing 2-1, Backstrom corralled the puck behind his own net. He charged down the ice feeding Burakovsky in the neutral zone, before Burakovsky fed the puck back to Backstrom, who deposited it past Marc-Andre Fluery for the game-tying goal.
The play started and ended with Backstrom, but how about Burakovsky. He has scored and assisted on each of the Capitals first two goals. Hopefully this wakes up the Capitals as they try to force a Game 6.
