Watch: Wizards honor Phil Chenier in final home broadcast of season
— CSN Wizards (@CSNWizards) April 9, 2017
Phil Chenier will be stepping away from the announce table after 33 seasons with the Washington Wizards franchise. The news became public Chenier would be moving away from his role as the team’s primary color analyst, a position he had since 1984 when the then-Bullets aired their games on Home Team Sports.
During the Wizards last regular season home game this season at the Verizon Center, the organization honored Chenier, recognizing his contributions to the organization as both a player and announcer. His contract with CSN Mid-Atlantic is set to expire in the summer, and he will be moving to another role which would include in-studio analysis and work with the team’s alumni organization that is set to honor its 40th anniversary of the franchise’s 1977-78 NBA championship, next season.
The home crowd got a chance to show its appreciation for him. Following the applause, which included Wizards players joining in, a fan is heard screaming “Phil, you’re the man”
Yes, Phil, you are the man.
Luckily, we will get to hear Chenier’s voice a bit more, as the Washington Wizards have clinched a berth in the NBA playoffs, and he will do color commentary through CSN’s coverage.
