Rutgers QB Artur Sitkowski Had More Interceptions than Completions against Maryland

Rutgers is pretty bad, in fact they’re terrible at college football. The Scarlet Knights are arguably the worst team in the Football Bowl Sub-division. Their true freshman quarterback Artur Sitkowski has not adjusted well to the college game, and has had some bad stat lines early in the season. However, none were as bad as his performance Saturday against the Maryland Terrapins.

Sitkowski completed just 2-of-16 passes for eight yards. He also threw four interceptions. Yes, four interceptions, meaning he completed more passes to Maryland players than his own receivers.

Maryland throttled Rutgers 34-7 in the process.

Rutgers entered the game with the 125th offense in the nation, there are 129 teams. They were 113th in the nation in passing. Maryland’s defense is nothing to sleep on. They ranked 35th in the nation and fifth in a loaded Big Ten. So, having a true freshman struggle against them is not all surprising. But, what Sitkowski did on Saturday was jaw-dropping.

Maryland allowed just eight yards passing for the game, dropping their yards per game average from 226.6 yards to 190.2.

Sitkowski now has three touchdowns and 15 interceptions on the season. That’s awful for any quarterback in college football, it’s magnified being a quarterback in a Power 5 program, playing in one of the two best conferences in nation.

Sitkowski was eventually replaced by senior backupĀ Giovanni Rescigno when the game was completely out hand. The change at quarterback wasn’t much improvement as Rescigno threw an interception on his first and only pass of the game.

For Maryland, its defense forced five interceptions and beat a team it should to improve to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Big Ten. On the other hand, Rutgers getting embarrassed by Maryland stamps just how terrible they are this season.
