Alex Ovechkin joins an exclusive group, as the Washington Capitals captain became the 20th player in NHL history to notch 600 career goals.

Ovechkin reached the milestone with two goals Monday night against the Winnipeg Jets. He entered the night with 598 goals. His first goal came in the first period on a 5-on-3 power play. He deposited No. 599 from his office with a wrister.

No. 600 occurred in the second period as he put away his NHL-leading 42nd goal of the season off a couple of swipes at the net.

Ovechkin is the fourth-fastest player to reach the milestone of 600 goals, doing so in 990 games. Only Wayne Gretzky (718 games), Mario Lemieux (719), Brett Hull (900) reached 600 goals faster. Ovechkin is now 294 goals behind the league’s all-time leading goal scorer Gretzky.
