The Washington Redskins may be debating on whether they want Kirk Cousins. However, it appears some teams may be lining up hoping for an opportunity to court the potential free agent QB. One of those teams that has been linked to interest of Cousins is the Denver Broncos.
Denver is in search of fixing its biggest weakness, the quarterback position. While GM John Elway may not be permitted to speak on the matter at the moment, the players — especially on defense – are letting their voice be heard. And it appears there is a consensus pick among the organization what QB they prefer in the 2018 season and beyond.
Appearing on NFL Network, LB Brandon Marshall made it known he wants Cousins in Denver. Marshall talked about the struggles and the solutions for the Broncos to return to their contending ways. When asked what would Elway do with the quarterback position, Marshall was adamant it was time to move on to a veteran quarterback.
When asked if he had someone in mind, Marshall replied, “We played against a guy Week 16 that’s pretty good.”

Leading into and immediately following the Redskins’ 27-11 win back in Week 16, Broncos’ players voiced their approval of Cousins. Defensive star Von Miller said teams “would kill” to have a quarterback like Cousins. Cornerbacks Chris Harris, Jr. and Aqib Talib echoed similar words after Cousins carved up the then-No. 1 ranked defense for 299 yards and three touchdowns. It was the most passing yardage allowed by the Broncos all season.
Denver will be in a tough spot with less salary cap space than some other suitors. However, the team and its fans are yearning for a return to the Super Bowl. The post-Peyton Manning life in Denver has been disappointing to say the least with failed projects with Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, and Brock Osweiler at quarterback. If, Cousins is made available, it’s safe to assume he would be at the top of Elway’s list. And if he isn’t, it seems his players will try to persuade him otherwise.
